INDIANAPOLIS -- For years, Kyle Larson has become synonymous with NASCAR 's connection to the Indianapolis 500 .
But when Sunday's Brickyard 400 takes the green flag, Larson won't be the only driver in the top 10 who knows what it's like to race in the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
Starting ninth alongside Larson in 10th, A.J. Allmendinger is the only other active NASCAR Cup Series driver to have started the Indy 500. More than a decade after making his lone start in 2013, Indianapolis Motor Speedway still leaves the 44-year-old in awe.
"To me, it's the mecca of racing history," Allmendinger said.
"The history just still hits me. It blows my mind how long that place has been there to begin with, and all the greats that have been on it, that have won at it."
For Allmendinger, Indianapolis has always carried a deeper meaning.
